The Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris presents the first major exhibition in Paris by Peter Doig.
Peter Doig was born in Edinburgh, and in 1962 moved with his family to Trinidad, where his father worked with a shipping and trading company, and then in 1966 to Canada. He went to London in 1979 to study art.
Many of Doig’s pictures are landscapes, with a number harking back to the snowy scenes of his childhood in Canada. Doig’s landscapes are splendidly layered formally and conceptually, and draw on assorted artists from art history, including Edvard Munch and Claude Monet to Friedrich and Klimt. His works are frequently based on found photographs, but are not painted in a photorealist style, Doig instead using the photographs simply for reference. Peter Doig’s work captures moments of tranquillity, which contrast with uneasy oneiric elements. He uses unusual colour combinations and depicts scenes from unexpected angles, all contributing to give his work a magic realist feel. Doig is one of Europe’s most expensive living painters.

Posted by webmaster in : Culture , add a commentAprès une cinquième édition gourmande, où artistes et grands chefs ont collaboré, le Parcours Saint Germain propose pour sa 6ème édition d’explorer un nouvel univers enchanteur et féerique : celui des contes de fées.
Du 29 mai au 19 juin 2008, l’art contemporain et la mode seront réunis pour répondre à la thématique suivante : « Il était une fois… ».
Toutes les créations originales sont actuellement exposées dans les boutiques de luxe de Saint Germain : Christian Lacroix, Sonia Rykiel, Paule Ka, agnès b, Longchamp… ainsi que dans les lieux emblématiques du quartier : la Place Saint Germain des Prés, le Café de Flore, la place Furstenberg, l’école des Beaux-Arts…
Ce voyage dans le monde merveilleux des contes de fées a pour objectif de réinterpréter les histoires d’autrefois ou d’en créer de nouvelles, de La Belle au bois dormant à Cendrillon, en passant par Peau d’Ane ou Barbe-Bleue. En un coup de baguette magique, les 30 artistes conviés pour l’occasion donneront vie au carrosse de Cendrillon version contemporaine ou à une colonie de Blanches-neige en folie… Tout cela dans le but de montrer l’influence que peuvent avoir les contes de fées sur notre imaginaire.

Posted by webmaster in : Culture , add a commentLa Maison des métallos présente une série de reportages de Samuel Bollendorff sur les revers écologiques et humains du «miracle économique» chinois. Composée de 50 tirages argentiques de format 40×60 cm, l’exposition de ce jeune photographe, membre de l’agence Oeil Public, nous rappelle l’existence particulièrement difficile des oubliés de la croissance – les trois quarts des 500 millions de paysans chinois, qui vivent aujourd’hui en dessous du seuil de pauvreté.
Samuel Bollendorff
Né en 1974, le photographe est membre de l’agence Oeil Public depuis 1999.
De l’hôpital à l’école, la police ou la prison, de 1998 à 2004, il propose un regard social sur les institutions en France en s’interrogeant sur la place des individus dans les services publics.
Depuis 2006, avec l’aide du Ministère de la Culture, il réalise À MARCHE FORCEE, une série de reportages sur les oubliés du miracle économique chinois, exposée au Festival Visa pour l’image en 2007.
