Since Saturday April 26th, Montmartre has seen a new place appearing: Place Jean Marais, named after the famous actor. The place is in front of the church Saint-Pierre, the cross streets of Mont Cenis, Norvins and St. Rustique. A stone’s throw from the famous Place du Tertre, it paid tribute to the actor Jean Marais, revealed by the French film maker Jean Cocteau.

Inaugurated in the presence of Daniel Vaillant, the mayor PS of the eighteenth arrondissement and the nightlife celebrity Michou, this place has just joined those dedicated to Suzanne Valadon, Marcel Aymé, Emile Goudeau or Dalida, all perched on the Butte Montmartre.

Let us tell you a bit more about Jean Marais.
Jean Marais, born Jean-Alfred Villain-Marais (December 11, 1913 – November 8, 1998), was a French actor.
Born in Cherbourg, he starred in several movies directed by Jean Cocteau, most famously Beauty and the Beast (1946). In the 1950s, Marais became a star of swashbuckling pictures, enjoying great box office popularity in France. He performed his own stunts. In the 1960s, he played the famed villain of the Fantômas trilogy.

He died from cardiovascular disease in Cannes, Alpes-Maritimes.

To find the best baguette in Paris you will have to climb up to Montmarte’s hill: Au Duc de la Chapelle.
The best baguette in Paris is made by 28-year-old Anis Bouabsa. He recently snagged the 2008 Grand Prix de la
Baguette de la Ville de Paris, along with a contract to supply the daily bread to President Sarkozy. Bouabsa’s baguette uses flour from Les Moulins Bourgeois, and people flock to his shop in the upper reaches of the 18th for a taste.
