Jacques Prévert at Hôtel de Ville
Most Americans know Jacques Prévert as a songwriter (he wrote the words for the 1940s song “Autumn Leaves”). Most French know him as a poet. But this expo reveals a man of many artistic talents.
Prévert came of age in Paris in the 1920s, and was an active participant in the Surrealist movement. He collaborated with Miro, Calder, and Picasso, and worked on groundbreaking films, such as Les enfants du paradis and Drôle de drame.
The expo is curated by Prévert’s granddaughter, Eugénie Bachelot Prévert, and film expert NT Binh – much comes from private archives.
Film clips, song bits, poetry, photography, agendas (artistic accountings of his daily activities), and notes and sketches of screenplays reveal the scope and quality of the artist’s work.
