Secondhand booksellers, flower markets and art galleries : have a walk on the left bank, where history mixes with modernity and elegance.

Among the most pleasant itineraries through Paris, you cannot skip a stroll on the left bank. This is a nice, charming approach, starting from the heart of the city, the Ile de la Cité ans its flower market. A series of little shops, overflown with plants and flowers, and the right place to find kitshy items such as rag dolls and other things in the “Little House” style.

Cross the banks and walk along the Seine while tourists wave to passers-by from the fly-boats. After some good walking, you will see second-hand bokksellers on the Quai Malaquais and Quai Voltaire, flipping through old magazines while keeping an eye on their stalls packed with old books, postcards and posters.

On the left, Rue Bonaparte is a well-matched mix between art and history with galleries, fashion and antiques boutiques. Taking Rue Jacob, you will reach Rue des Saint-Pères where luxury antiques sellers have settled. Steps away from there, you may come across the private mansion where the famous singer Serge Gainsbourg used to live. Your way opens onto the place St-Germain-des-Prés, where you will find the rest pleasantly, at the Café de Flore or the Café des Deux Magots, both places haunted by Verlaine, Rimbaud, Sartre and many other French writers’souls.

Last but not least, shopping-addicts will take great pleasure in walking along Rue de Rennes, Rue de Sèvres and the surrounding area to discover the trendiest clothes and accessories in Paris’fashion
