More than two years of work have been necessary to transform the premises of the former municipal funeral services at 104 de la rue d’Aubervilliers in the 19th arrondissement of Paris into the CENTQUATRE, a new major centre for artistic creation today.

This City of Paris establishment with a surface area of 39,000 m² organised into various spaces, workshops, performance rooms and a hanging garden, is primarily a platform for dialogue and exchange between visitors and numerous multidisciplinary arts. Regardless of whether the artists are in residence or not, they will be able to show their work to the public.

The CENTQUATRE (free access) will open on Saturday, 11 October 2008, and from 2.30pm to 2am in the morning, visitors will be able to discover this huge centre devoted to artistic creation, as well as a rich programme of festivities: presentation of works of « 1 % artistique » (« 1% of the cost of public building works given over for the production of works of art »), a giant model designed by Paul Cox, work by artists in residence; screening of 32 films by Anri Sala; reading of 104 slogans by Christian Prigent; live elaboration of musical works by Gérard Pesson, free concert by Tricky (trip-hop music)… Not to be missed!
