The epitome of literature and art as it is, the St-Germain district represents a different kind of magic for fashion addicts, and those who set elegance and spiritual lifestyle before anything else. Culture, fashion, style fill the narrow streets down to hidden shops, to create a typical Parisian atmosphere. Chic leads to contemporary, art goes with history, shopping merges into strolling… The Bon Marché, created in 1838 and supposedly the first French department store, seems to gather all these features. At number 24, Rue de Sèvres, the famous store on the left bank, specialized in luxury articles, is house to books, perfumes, men and women fashion, home design and travel stand. On the other side of the street, the food hall called Grande Epicerie offers a gastronomic travel around the world, with Italian, oriental or simply French delicacies!

Left Bank: an art of living 29 octobre 2008
Posted by webmaster in : Culture,News,Parcours,Zoom , add a commentSecondhand booksellers, flower markets and art galleries : have a walk on the left bank, where history mixes with modernity and elegance.

Among the most pleasant itineraries through Paris, you cannot skip a stroll on the left bank. This is a nice, charming approach, starting from the heart of the city, the Ile de la Cité ans its flower market. A series of little shops, overflown with plants and flowers, and the right place to find kitshy items such as rag dolls and other things in the “Little House” style.
Cross the banks and walk along the Seine while tourists wave to passers-by from the fly-boats. After some good walking, you will see second-hand bokksellers on the Quai Malaquais and Quai Voltaire, flipping through old magazines while keeping an eye on their stalls packed with old books, postcards and posters.
On the left, Rue Bonaparte is a well-matched mix between art and history with galleries, fashion and antiques boutiques. Taking Rue Jacob, you will reach Rue des Saint-Pères where luxury antiques sellers have settled. Steps away from there, you may come across the private mansion where the famous singer Serge Gainsbourg used to live. Your way opens onto the place St-Germain-des-Prés, where you will find the rest pleasantly, at the Café de Flore or the Café des Deux Magots, both places haunted by Verlaine, Rimbaud, Sartre and many other French writers’souls.
Last but not least, shopping-addicts will take great pleasure in walking along Rue de Rennes, Rue de Sèvres and the surrounding area to discover the trendiest clothes and accessories in Paris’fashion
The Colette concept store gets a makeover for the new season 21 octobre 2008
Posted by webmaster in : News,Parcours,Shopping , comments closed

You may not know this but France is one of the most popular places for concept stores. The Colette store created
in 1997 in Paris is considered as one of the pioneers. The leitmotif of all concept stores is constant renewal.
Colette is the proof of this after the makeover of the three levels of its store this summer. The architect Masamichi
Katayama/Wonderwall carried out the transformation. Now, CD/DVDs and high-tech are situated on the ground
floor, fashion, beauty, the gallery and the temporary display area are on the first floor, and the water bar is at
basement level. Known throughout the world for its cutting-edge selections, Colette is more than ever centred
on its only Parisian address, and there are no plans to extend the concept to other capitals. For all fans of
“styledesignartfoodmusicbeautynews” – as Colette likes to define itself –, Paris is the only place to be. Unless
one opts for a virtual trip on the Colette website which has also been relooked. And there is now online
shopping for all articles that are in stock and music to listen to, blogs, television, etc. A city guide site by Colette
is coming soon. No end of surprises at this very Parisian concept store.
